The chart below is drawn from textual references within the "Beowulf" manuscript itself, as well as a number of external source documents. Brackets indicate unnamed or otherwise uncertain figures either mentioned in the sources or known to exist by logical inference (i.e. a spouse). Dotted lines represent an unknown span of generations. Dates are highly conjectural, and are based on the central historical date of Hygelac's death circa 521 CE. See the Chronology section for more details on dating.
